European Day of Languages 2025 at Volta
On 26th September, Volta celebrated the European Day of Languages, joining schools across Europe in recognising the power of languages to connect people and open minds.
In the days surrounding the event, Humanities teachers invited students to reflect on the many languages they hear and speak every day, at home, with friends, at school, or beyond. Through a series of guiding questions, students explored their linguistic roots, family histories, and cultural experiences. They also shared proverbs and traditional dishes from their own backgrounds, translating and explaining their meanings.
This year’s motto, “Languages open hearts and minds,” came to life through colourful displays on the English Board and through the Volta Awards.
Class 1E IT was named “The Most International Class of the Year”, representing an impressive mix of languages and dialects, including Italian, Albanian, Tamazight, Latvian, Arabic, and many more.
Students from 1 EIT were awarded the prize for Volta’s most international class.
The awards for the most interesting proverbs went to two students from 1HMME and 4IMM who contributed with a Macedonian and Serbian proverb respectively:
„Убавиот збор железни врати отвора“ (Ubaviot zbor železni vrati otvara), “Sweet words break no bones but win hearts”
„Без муке нема науке“ (Bez muke nema nauke), “No pain, no gain.”

Ajdin Dano 1HMME, award for best proverb Убавиот збор железни врати отвора“
(“Sweet words break no bones but win hearts”)

The celebration reminded us that every language tells a unique story, and together, they make Volta a truly international community. Volta’s English teachers, Prof. Stefania Coluccia, Adriana Patriche, Caterina Pettazzoni and Erica Volani, will continue to promote initiatives that raise awareness about languages, so stay tuned!
